Cape Maria van Diemen Lighthouse is an octagonal wooden tower built on the highest point of Motuopao Island to the west of Cape Maria van Diemen. Craggy headland 6 km north-east of Cape Maria van Diemen, at the northern tip of the Aupōuri Peninsula. It rises steeply to 290 m above sea level, and is often thought to be the northernmost point of the country.
