The Long Night is supposed to have lasted an entire generation. Even with exaggeration, it had to have lasted for a long time. There is one thing that can throw up enough dust and debris to cover the sun for years on end - a volcano. And there is an island in the Jade Sea south of Yi Ti that is clearly the exploded cone of a volcano, Marahai.
